Working Principle:

When pressurize, these expand radially inwards. Moreover, the tube that is constricting forces the friction shoes against to cylindrical drums. The clutch torque is thus determined by the pressurized air pressure. If the pressure is more, then more is torque transmitted. Instant disengagement on the release of air is ensured by that of release springs.

This type is more generally used in that of high torque transmission. However, rather transmitted by the side walls of air tube, the torque is transmitted by torque bars. This substantial slippage can be handled without any damage. In addition, these products are also available in split designs that minimizes the maintenance time.
